What Jamaica’s transition from cheques means for individuals, businesses and organisations

KEY CHANGE FROM 1 SEPTEMBER 2026: Jamaican-dollar cheques—including manager’s cheques—valued at J$1,000,000 or more will no longer be accepted or processed by banks. Cheques for less than J$1,000,000 remain subject to normal banking requirements until further notice.

From 1 September 2026, Jamaican-dollar cheques valued at J$1,000,000 or more—including manager’s cheques—will not be accepted or processed by banks. Make alternative arrangements early, verify all payment instructions, and contact your bank before a large or urgent payment is due.
